The bottle sat innocuously on the table. Sunlight filtered through the golden liquid inside, painting the wood grain with a collage of glowing, crystalline puddles. The stopper, a tiny bubble of colorless glass, barely fit in the ribbed neck of the bottle. A faded red label clung desperately to the glass, the white lettering barely visible: Caution. Do not consume more than recommended dose.
She sat with her chin resting on the table, pale blue eyes fixated on the little vial. An hour and a half she had been debating with herself, occasionally even uncorking the bottle and taking a whiff of the clear liquid inside. Her trembling hands had yet to raise the sickly sweet smelling stuff to her lips, though. Something deep inside refused to let her. Which only made her more determined.
The table shook as she shifted and accidentally kicked it. With a soft little tinkle, the bottle toppled. The tiny, round stopper fell onto the table and rolled, chiming like a bell, onto the floor. Liquid gold puddled just inside the neck of the bottle, sloshing gently against the glass.
For a long moment, she froze, waiting to see if the liquid would spill. When it didn't, she very, very carefully righted the bottle. She ran a finger around the rim of the vial. Her long, red-painted nail rang against the bottleneck. Her fingertip came away wet, a single drop of sweet liquid perched on her skin. Very slowly, she lifted the fingertip to her mouth, smearing the dampness over her luscious lips. As she lowered her hand, her soft pink tongue flicked out to lick the golden droplet away.
Immediately, her nostrils flared and her pupils dilated. She inhaled sharply. Heat rushed through her veins like a firestorm, invigorating, addicting. Goosebumps skittered up and down her skin. The roof of her mouth felt sharp, as if she had eaten strong peppermint just before a drink of ice water.
And that was only a single drop. She could only imagine what the whole dose would do. This had to be the best batch yet.
She slowly reached down to retrieve the fallen stopper. Heart still pounding in her chest, she replaced the little glass ball on top of the bottle. Tapping her nail against the vial once, she pulled a pen to her and smirked.
When she was finished, the faded label now read Drink Me in fresh blue ink.
Satisfied, she gently set the bottle in the middle of the table and padded out of the room, hoping she would be around to see whoever was curious enough to taste the drug.
What is this? A story? Oh goodness!

Anyway, this is the latest piece in my senior project collection (of four, so far). It's also the shortest, at a half page long. The title is inspired by Alice in Wonderland, but it has nothing to do with Alice. It's actually Kavine, one of the antagonists for Savior, testing a new batch of the drug called phoxe. I tried to keep out as much physical description of Kavine as I could, because I always tend toward what a character looks like when I'm describing and the challenge was to write a very descriptive piece. Still working on balancing details with character/plot. But here's an attempt.

Enjoy.

Heh, I like it.
Who's Kavine? Oooh new character :o

You did great in avoiding physical description, I just remember something about her nails and that's all.
